Russia said on Saturday (December 3rd) that it “will not accept” capping the price of its oil barrel at $60. This measure must come into force on Monday, after the agreement sealed by the countries of the European Union, the G7 and Australia, in order to limit the income of Moscow to finance the conflict in Ukraine. The spokesperson for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, quoted by the Russian agencies, assures that Moscow had “prepared” upstream “for such a ceiling”.

On the Ukrainian side, the chief of staff of the presidency, Andriï Yermak, estimated on Telegram that the Russian economy would be “destroyed” by this measure. For his part, the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, estimated that this decision would only have limited consequences. “It is not a serious decision to set such a limit for Russian prices,” he said, according to the office of the presidency.

Vladimir Putin will visit the Donbass “in due time”

Vladimir Putin will go to the Donbass “in due time”, the Kremlin said. The Russian president has not yet visited this area of eastern Ukraine, which he annexed at the end of September, without however having his army fully control it. “It’s a region of Russia,” spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, told the press when asked about a possible upcoming trip by the president to this region.

France to deliver “additional weapons” to kyiv

Europe and the United States share a common desire, that of “continuing to help Ukraine to resist”, assured the Head of State, in an interview broadcast on Saturday on TF1. France will thus deliver “additional weapons” to kyiv, also assured the French president. “We make our manufacturers produce faster and stronger”.

Emmanuel Macron announced that he would speak “soon” with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on security issues around “civilian nuclear” in Ukraine. But first, he will meet on Sunday with the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he said in an interview with Parisian (article reserved for subscribers).

Further bombing of Ukrainian infrastructure to come

“Necessary and inevitable.” This is how Vladimir Putin on Friday justified the bombings that have ravaged Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving millions of civilians in the dark and cold.

This is what prompted the Ukrainian authorities to call on the population on Saturday to “hold on” in the face of the power cuts which now punctuate their daily lives. “From Monday, I will demand that Oblenergo (an operator) review the timetables for the region. Most likely there will be four-hour stops,” the governor of the Mykolaiv region (south) announced on Telegram. Vitali Kim. He described a “rising consumption” of electricity, which he said must require longer interruptions, so as to relieve the regional electricity network.
