Tourism: the Italians are back on the Cote d’Azur

Italian tourists are back on the Cote d’Azur. No travel restrictions for this New Year 2023, so many are treating themselves to a dose of French “dolce vita”.

In Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), Italian tourists are back between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, after two years of a pandemic. “When I walk around, I only come across Italians“, wonders a woman in the language of Dante. Tourists come mainly from neighboring regions. A third of them are from Lombardy, and another from Piedmont.

Couples aged 35-40

These neighbors sometimes find their word to complain about. “The Cote d’Azur is one of the most beautiful places. Italians want to come here. The only problem is that it’s expensive,” said a tourist. Michel Tschann, director of the Splendid hotel in Nice, also noted the return of the Italians. “These are young couples, 35-40 years old, who come to have fun, to have a good time,” he observes. In town, Italians love to go to the Turin cafe. During this period, a third of customers come from the other side of the Alps.
