Sidney Holmes spent 34 years of his life in prison, after being sentenced to 400 years of imprisonment. He was innocent.Upon being released, he was finally able to regain some semblance of a normal life.
Amidst cries of joy and tears, Sidney Holmes was declared innocent and released after 34 years in prison. He had been sentenced to 400 years in prison.On June 19, 1988, 22 year old Sidney Holmes was accused of being a driver during a robbery. While incarcerated, he never stopped proclaiming his innocence. Even the victims’ families had doubts about his guilt.

There were cries of joy mixed with tears. After 34 years in prison, Sidney Holmes was declared not guilty and released. He had been sentenced to 400 years in prison. On June 19th, 1988, Sidney Holmes, then 22 years old, was accused of being a getaway driver during a robbery. While incarcerated, he never stopped proclaiming his innocence. Even the victims’ families had doubts about his guilt.
After two years of investigation by a special review unit, the now fifty-year-old man was acquitted. “I don’t know why this happened to me, when I was only 22 and life was smiling at me. I had a career, I was studying to become a specialized nurse in surgery. And when this story fell on me, with a snap of my fingers, I lost everything,” said Sidney Holmes. His daughter was only 7 months old when he was incarcerated. At the time, prosecutors had asked the judges to sentence him to 800 years in prison for not having denounced his alleged accomplices. He could now claim several million dollars in compensation.
