Russia accused of using missiles from North Korea, according to the US

In the autumn, North Korean leader Kim visited Moscow to meet with President Putin. Since then, it appears that North Korea has been supplying weapons. The US is now certain that Russia is using them in Ukraine.

According to US intelligence, Russia has deployed ballistic missiles from North Korea against Ukraine. John Kirby, the spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, stated that several North Korean ballistic missiles were used in a nighttime attack on Tuesday. Additionally, at least one more missile was fired at Ukraine on December 30.

The US is currently assessing the damage caused by these missiles, which have a range of approximately 885 kilometers. US Concerns over Moscow’s agreement with Iran

Kirby further stated that according to intelligence, Russia aims to acquire ballistic short-range missiles from Iran. An agreement between Russia and Iran on this matter has not yet been finalized. However, the US is concerned that progress could be made in this regard.

The US government believes that Russia is dependent on North Korea and Iran for weapons in their conflict in Ukraine. Both of these countries are largely isolated internationally due to their nuclear programs and human rights records. Kirby mentioned that the US plans to express their concerns about the use of these weapons before the United Nations Security Council and is considering additional sanctions against individuals and entities from North Korea and Iran. Kim’s visit to Russia in September

In September, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un traveled to Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin. In October, the White House stated that North Korea had delivered over 1000 containers of military equipment and ammunition to Russia.

In November, the South Korean military expressed suspicion that North Korea had sent an unspecified number of short-range ballistic missiles, anti-tank missiles, portable anti-aircraft missiles, as well as rifles, rocket launchers, mortars, and grenades to Russia.

According to US intelligence sources, it is believed that North Korea wants to receive technology from Russia in exchange for its weapons, such as aircraft, surface-to-air missiles, armored vehicles, and ballistic missile production facilities. KCNA: Kim calls for expansion of rocket launcher production

According to state media, on Thursday, Kim called for an expansion in the production of rocket launchers, in preparation for a “military showdown” with South Korea and the US. Kim made this call during a visit to a factory, as reported by the North Korean news agency KCNA on Friday.

In its ongoing war with Ukraine, Russia is reportedly consuming vast quantities of weapons and ammunition and experts believe that its domestic production cannot keep up with the demand.
