Major Fire Breaks Out in Rostov-on-Don Zoo Area
Fire broke out in the territory of Rostov Zoo, according to the portal “Rostov Region Today.” It is reported that the fire started near one of the entrances. According to eyewitness accounts, the fire originated within the zoo premises. Rescue services have already arrived at the scene, and the evacuation of people and animals is underway. Information about the cause of the fire and possible casualties has not yet been received.
Rostov Zoo is one of the largest zoos in Russia, covering an area of nearly 56.97 hectares. It is also involved in 38 programs for the conservation of rare and endangered animal species and is a member of the International Animal Information System. Currently, it houses about 400 species of animals, more than 30 of which are listed in the Red Book of Russia.
Earlier, a child and an emergency services employee died as a result of a major fire in Korolyov, a suburb of Moscow.
