Giuliani Files for Bankruptcy

Former New York Mayor Giuliani has filed for bankruptcy. According to court documents, Giuliani, a close ally of former President Trump, filed for bankruptcy after two election assistants filed a multimillion-dollar defamation lawsuit against him.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has filed for bankruptcy, according to a publicly available court document.

The 79-year-old ally of former President Donald Trump was recently ordered to pay approximately $148 million (around €143 million) in damages last week for falsely claiming, after the 2020 presidential election, that election assistants discarded Trump’s ballots and counted fake ones for Democrat Joe Biden.

According to the document submitted by Giuliani, he applied for creditor protection. He listed liabilities of up to $500 million (€455 million) and assets ranging from $1 million to $10 million. Giuliani’s largest debt is the aforementioned $148 million, which he was ordered to pay by a federal court jury in Washington.

Successful Lawsuit by Two Election Assistants

The lawsuit was filed by election assistants Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss in the state of Georgia. Both women gained national attention last year when they testified before the congressional committee investigating the Capitol attack. Moss described being threatened and wished death upon.

The two women accused Giuliani of damaging their reputation with his claims and leading to numerous racist threats against them. A jury in Washington sided with them.
