Controversial Interior Minister Braverman dismissed

Interior Minister Suella Braverman, who has been a subject of debate due to her hardline stance on refugee policies, has been dismissed. Criticism of the police’s handling of a pro-Palestinian demonstration appears to have cost her the position.

British Prime Minister Sunak has dismissed controversial Interior Minister Suella Braverman. The government has confirmed the media reports. Braverman will be replaced by former Foreign Minister James Cleverly. The former Prime Minister David Cameron is set to take over Cleverly’s position. The right-wing politician has repeatedly caused controversies, most recently with criticism of the police’s handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

Last week, Braverman accused the police of ignoring “pro-Palestinian mobs”. She described demonstrations calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as “hate marches.” Over the weekend, right-wing protesters clashed with the police in London. Critics accused Braverman of fueling tensions.

Favorite for party leadership in the event of a possible Tory electoral defeat

Braverman is considered a promising candidate for party leadership in the event of the Conservative Party’s expected defeat in the upcoming parliamentary elections next year. The ruling Conservatives are trailing far behind the opposition Labour Party in the polls.

Speculation suggests that by criticizing the police and making other right-wing populist statements, she was positioning herself as a candidate of the right-wing faction within the party and may have intentionally triggered her own dismissal.
