Bob was suddenly overwhelmed by a sharp pain in his back, and then everything went black. He had a vague awareness of the cries of his colleagues around him, and he knew they needed help, but the pain was so intense that he couldn’t move. As the darkness closed in on him, Bob realized that he might be experiencing his last moments of life…
He thought of his mother and all the things he wanted to say to her. Two days later, the doorbell rang at Bob’s house. When Doris, his mother, opened the door, she saw two soldiers standing at the entrance. Their faces were somber, and she immediately understood what their visit meant. Her heart sank as she realized that her son Bob was no longer with them.
